Being Healthy Makes You Weird

So your parents have never tasted avocado.

Nor have they ever pronounced “quinoa” correctly. Your friends would much rather take shots of tequila than wheatgrass and you live in a city (Boston, cough cough) where a good salad is like a needle in a haystack of pizza and calzones.

And you were always ok it.

Until recently. Until aches and pains, or extra weight, or your digestive system (no longer so forgiving), has made you think twice.

You start googling: “Healthy recipes”… “foods that cause bloating”… “why am I tired all the time?”

You’re curious (or maybe desperate?) You’re interested (and maybe frustrated?). Why didn’t anyone tell me all this?!

But you mention kale in front of friends? Blank stares. You raise the topic of whole foods with family? “Enjoy the mac and cheese, will ya?” the only response.

Alone again, you think. Alone in your quest – for answers, for inspiration, for something more.

When my business partner, Ashley Wilson, and I, created our 14 day Whole Food Detox, we had had it with going at it alone. We were determined to create a shift… to create it fast.

And it’s happened.

A few weeks ago, roughly a year after our first program launched, Ashley and I were having dinner downtown with a group of good friends and clients.

For a moment, I stood back, and just listened.

“Yup, I eat avocado pudding for breakfast too.”
“Oh yea, those raw chocolate brownies are incredible!”
“My mom has completely changed… ”
“She’s never going back to her old ways…”
“I never knew I was supposed to feel this good.”

The entire table was talking the same language. Nothing was shocking, nothing was weird. It was the new norm.

In just over 24 hours, registration opens for our next Whole Food Detox, which means this community of wellness warriors will continue to grow.

I’m telling you early (!) because I want you to stop going at it alone. When you click here, you’ll be added to my VIP list (shh you’ll be getting a super special early bird deal).

Oh and did I mention this Whole Food Detox is like… really fun? No more talk of calories and restriction but just about what makes you feel good.

You’ll be hearing more in the coming weeks, but you’d be silly not to get on the list NOW (seriously, you won’t regret it). My special deal will be time sensitive (like 24 hours time sensitive) and it’ll only be offered ONCE!

Get on the VIP list!
Cheers, my friend, to making healthy living less weird.

You Could Use A Little Porn

I remember the days well…

When my mom’s “healthy” birthday cakes sent childhood friends screaming (and laughing) for days. When our “healthy” Halloween left us with nothing more than apples at the bottom of a pillowcase. When our “healthy” lifestyle was far from trendy and straight up bummed us out and turned us off.

Fortunately times have changed, my friend, times have changed. If you’re feeling limited in any of the ways I mentioned above, something is very wrong. You need not be eating only rice cakes and tasteless crackers. You need not be drinking blue green algae and passing on dessert.

Healthy and delicious are not mutually exclusive. Do you hear me?
It’s about time you get turned on by the food you eat.

And that’s where the porn comes in… food porn obviously (what were you expecting?)

We’ll start slow, get you warmed up with a slice of strawberry shortcake, its crust of soft dates and unpasteurized almonds (oo baby, tell me more). Coconut milk, cashews, and just a touch of raw honey make for the perfectly white, creamy filling, setting the stage for the fresh berries which pop with color.

Next, something traditional…

…the one and only chocolate chip cookie. You think you know, but you have no idea. You won’t taint your taste buds with processed sugar and preservatives but instead treat them to an electric combination of honey, coconut oil, almonds and cacao nibs. Five minutes to heaven.

Ok, you don’t have all day for this…

…or maybe you do… but in any case, let’s skip ahead to the main event, your deepest desire. From the moment you wake until the moment it hits your lips, you yearn for the dark, previously forbidden, forever satisfying chocolate… (unless you’ve never had good chocolate, of course, then you have no clue what you’re missing). Good chocolate doesn’t come in a package (no way) but is crafted (in just minutes) with your own hands, mixed with natural sweeteners and slick, heart healthy oils and when tasted, is a pleasure that lingers on… and on… and on.

You SO Want To Say “Yes”

I’ve been there. Who hasn’t?

This is the scene: You, sitting at a candlelit dinner downtown, surrounded by good friends, good food. You’re enjoying your grilled fish and veggies and feeling proud of your ability to resist the burger (but damn, that’s what you really wanted). Anyway, you’ve made it through the main event. Then the waitress comes over and asks if you’d like a dessert menu. Moment of truth. Even though the voice in your head is screaming, “Yes yes yes… absolutely YES“, you wait patiently to see if anyone else jumps at the idea. You keep your cool and finally respond with a weak sounding, “Well, no… I don’t think so, I mean, I think I’m good…”, all the while hoping at least ONE friend will speak up, override your decision, and order the chocolate mousse. But no one does and there you sit, unsatisfied and kinda pissed.

Then what? Well, the night continues as any other would but you find yourself disconnected, dreaming of the sweet treat you’ll enjoy later in the comfort of your own bedroom, where no one is watching, no one is judging.

Anxiety. Restriction. Shame. Nope, it’s not what we’re meant to feel. Not at lunch, not at dinner, not ever.

“But I can’t really just say yes to every bit of sweetness offered to me, can I?” Well, yes, you can if you follow the formula I’m about to reveal to you, the formula that changed everything for me (seriously, I wouldn’t joke about this).
